Do you have a digital music player and you want to replace its firmware? To do so, do you want a tool that is freeware? If your answer is yes to both these questions, then I introduce to you Rockbox, a free application that will change your music player’s firmware, a free application that provides support for a wide range of music players.

Rockbox is available for Windows (Windows 2000, XP, Vista, and 7), it is available for Mac OS X (10.4, 10.5 and 10.6), and it is available for Linux.
To get started with Rockbox on your Windows PC, you will first have to download a 6.10MB archive. On a high-speed internet connection, downloading it will not take long. Extract the contents of the archive, run the RockboxUtility executable, and you will get started with this free tool.

The first time you run the application, you will be presented with a New Installation prompt that will invite you to open the Configuration dialog and thus set up the program. From the Configuration window you can select your audio player, select your device in the filesystem, set up a proxy, pick one of several supported languages, change the path to the cache folder, pick and configure the TTS engine, and configure the encoder engine.

If you need help using Rockbox, you can get it online. On the application’s official website there’s a useful Wiki page and a handy Daily Built Manuals page. The pages will offer useful information if you need help changing your music player’s firmware.

As already mentioned above, Rockbox is a free application.

Rockbox is free, it is available for multiple platforms, and it will help you change your music player’s firmware.
